Dreading the FiT? Earn money from SolarKing solar thermal with the RHI

Feed in Tariff Money
Since April last year, those installing solar PV have gained from the Feed in Tariff (FiT). Last month however, the government finally introduced the world’s first Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which sees installers of Solarking solar thermal technology given the chance to earn money for their eco efforts.

It’s been a long time coming, but it couldn’t have arrived at a better time. With cuts to the FiT set to go ahead in four days, many fear the demise of the solar industry, but here at Solarking, we’re certain that the new RIH scheme will work just as well at ushering in a new enthusiasm for green technology.
The scheme provides payments for heat generated from renewable technologies, including biomass boilers, solar thermal equipment and heat pumps installed from 2009.
Gaynor Hartnell, chief executive of the Renewable Energy Association said: ‘This is excellent and very long-awaited news. It’s high time UK started benefiting from a major roll-out of some of the cheapest forms of renewable energy.”

Greg Barker, energy and climate change minister, said:
‘Renewable heat will be a big win for our economy — it will support thousands of green jobs, reduce our dependency on imported fossil fuels, reduce our carbon emissions and help us meet our renewable target.’

Payments and predictions

The government has been trying to limit the UK’s carbon footprint since long before announcing the FiT, but so far failing to do so. With the new scheme, the Tories estimate that it will cut our carbon emissions by 43 million tonnes by 2020. This is based on a predicted uptake of 112,000 installations, as well as 14,000 industrial installations within the next nine years.
Those who invest in Solarking solar panel installation for their solar thermal technology will be eligible for the scheme and will be paid up 8.5p per kWh produced. Organisations will be furthermore able to apply to Ofgem for support under the scheme and will receive payments on a quarterly basis for heat generated over 20 years.
